Lockheed AH-56A Cheyenne
The Lockheed C-840 (AH-56 Cheyenne) won the competition of the US Army’s AAFSS (Advanced Aerial Fire Support System) programme in 1965. Until 1968, 10 pre-production models were delivered and 375 orders were placed. But in the meantime the US Army had already acquired the Bell AH-G HueyCobra. When the Cobras were available in Vietnam in 1969, the order for the AH-56 Cheyenne was cancelled.
In order to accelerate the speed of that helicopter, an
additional pusher propeller was built in.
