Mil Mi-1

Mikhail Leontyevich Mil was the designer of the first helicopter built in the Soviet Union and later in Poland in high-volume production. Its first flight was in 1948 and it was shown to the public in 1951. With its robust design that allowed reliable service even under extreme environmental conditions, the Mi-1 has proved to be a genuine multi-purpose helicopter.
The SM-1 version displayed in the Hubschraubermuseum Bückeburg is a trainer with dual controls. It was built by WSK Swidnik in Poland in 1959 and was donated to the museum by the Soviet air ministry in 1980.
