Havertz HZ-5

Hermann Havertz was tenant of a petrol station in Essen/Germany. He got the private pilot license before the beginning of World War II and was one of few which could afford an own airplane at that time.

The design of a simple, failure-resistant helicopter began shortly after WW II. Havertz succeeded with his HZ-5. This was his fifth (!) helicopter development.The aircraft achieved good flight characteristics. The “Luftfahrt-Bundesamt” (Federal Office of Civil Aeronautics) of Germany gave the permission to the HZ-5 with the official designation “D-HAJU”.

In 1971, Havertz donated his helicopter to our museum, because he had decided to discontinue flight testing due to his age of 70.
